Car Stereos: kenwood 1000w amp dilemma, safety relay, educational reasons

this is a used amplifier that i bought from my brother in law,it worked for the entire summer up until last month. the amplifier will power up when demanded to do so, but when any speaker is wired into it, the unit will shut off as though a safety relay has been activated. one opinion suggested the speaker output to be damaged. is this a repair that can be done by a novice for educational reasons, or is it not worth my time? thanks

Hi Bill.

Its completely up to you if what you want its to learn then it is always worth your time i would say.
as far as the amp going into protection mode, i would check the speaker first, the amp might not be the problem, test the speaker for impedance with a multi volt meter if its good then it might be the amp.
