Car Stereos: Head unit shuts off at a certain volume, clarion dxz865mp, bench test

I have a Clarion DXZ865MP head unit in a 98 cavalier. When i turn up the volume past 21 or turn up the bass it shuts off and turns on and immediately shuts off again, repeatedly. It never use to do this in my old car but started when i installed it in my Cavalier, could it be just a wiring problem or something with the car. I'm lost and don't know what to look for. Thanks for looking at this.

Hi Dave.

This might be due to a bad ground or and power connection,
output wires shorting out, bad speaker shorting out the radio.

how many speakers did you connect to the radio?.
sometimes if you connect more then 4 speakers to the outputs on the radio you are putting to much ohm load on the radio, might be causing that.

Check all your wiring. make sure you have a good connection on ALL your wires, check all your speakers see if they are working properly, if possible bench test them.
