Car Stereos: From factory sterio to Kenwood, factory radio, fuzes

Question
I just bought an 89' toyota and it still had the factory radio system in it.  It worked fine when i got the truck, just yesterday.  Today I took out the dash to install the kenwood and after intalling the wire harness i plugged it all back in and it didn't come on.  There was absolutely nothing, not even fuzz.  So to check to see if it was the new system that was the problem, i hooked the old radio back up and it didn't work either.  At this point I started looking to see if there were any fuzes blown, i couldn't find any.  If you had any suggestions or ideas as to what the problem could be, it would be greatly appreciated! - Zach

Answer
Hey zach

Let me get this straight..  So you connected the new wire harness to the new radio, and plugged it into the factory harness and it didn't work.  Then you unplugged the new harness and put the old radio back onto the factory harness and it didn't work either?

My first questions, and don't take this personally, are you sure the key (ignition) was on?  A lot of times, these types of problems are something stupid.  Turn your engine on and then test it.  If it still doesn't work, then I would replace the fuses.  A lot of times the fuses blow and they don't look blown.  If you replace the fuses and it still doesn't work, you need to get a multimeter (a cheap one will do) and start doing plug testing of the harness to find bad wires (or a wire may have disconnected from the back of the harness).  If you want me to explain that, let me know.  If that's already more than you want to do, then I'd advise you take it to an install shop.

Let me know

Thanks
