BMW Repair: oil type, u s cars, motorsport cars

I have a second hand Bmw 318i E46 built in december 2000 that i have bought recently. It has 70000 km. I don't know the right type of oil needed for my bmw as i want to change it soon.

Robert, U.S. models never received a four cylinder E46. All of our (U.S.)cars after 1998 model year take 5w-30 full synthetic oil (Except "Motorsport" cars). Check your owners manual or purchase one if the car didn't come with one. Also I can try to figure out what oil you motor takes if you give the last seven digits of the VIN.
