BMW Repair: Multi-Info Display, faint trace, voltage regulator

Question
I have a 1994 318i sedan and the LED display at the bottom of the console has started to go very dim. At first it was just the clock and then the part that shows only the ambient temperature. That is the only info that can be shown, so its by no means a critical repair. The LED is sometimes visible, but mostly it disappears leaving a faint trace, like a calculator that needs a new battery.

If you could let me know what may be happening that would be great. Can't say I'd be willing to replace the unit just to get the clock and thermometer back.

Thanks

Answer
Hiya

New one to me, so I might not be able to help here. Having a look around the only info I can gather relates to voltage regulator issues, but you are not having any of the other lights on the dash go dim are you?

I can ask a mate of mine to see if he cam offer any advice and get back to you in 24 hrs if thats ok?

Speak again soon.
Regards
