BMW Repair: Intermittent A/C Operation, c operation, climate control

Question
I have a 1998 M3 Convertible with a dual zone climate control module that sits just under the radio.  The entire control module will go out (lights go out and buttons don't work) and come back on intermittently.  Happens with or without starting the car and not related to how long the fan or A/C is on.

I have checked all the fuses, but haven't looked at relays.  When the control unit does come on, the AC blows cold and all adjustments appear to work.

Answer
Ryan, the A/C control module below your radio is faulty. Either replace the control unit and have the dealer code it, Or if you are mechanically inclinded you can fix your current one with some hand and wiring tools. Check out www.macadamizer.com/bmwfix.html  if you are up to the challenge. I guess it is a question of time vs. money. You have to decide which you have more of. If you do the repair please let me know how it turns out because I need some feedback on this repair to see if it is valid.
