BMW Repair: A/E, bmw 740 il, 1998 bmw 740

Hi, this is about a 1998 BMW 740 il and I realize you specialize in post-1998, but perhaps the locations hasn't changed  - can you tell me how to remove and replace the climate control filters?  It's my underdstanding that they are under the dash, but I can't find them - thanks

Gunther, I good German name indeed. Your car has four Microfilters Two on the underside of your hood toward the rear (one philips screw and the cover swings open) And two recirculation filters on the sides of the heater box in the foot wells toward the center console. You have to remove drivers foot pedal cover, foot well air duct. The little recirculation filter is right next to the little stepper motor on the heater housing. Lift the tap and work filter out of housing then pull down. The passenger side is in the identical position on the opposite side. If I remember right you open the glove box and remove the trim behind the box. I haven't done them in while. You should have no problems if you have a good flashlight and take your time.
