BMW Repair: Bmw starts but dies after about 15 minutes., cool air intake, fuel pressure regulator

Question
Hello,   My issue is about 8 months old.  I own a 1986 BMW 325.  About 8 months ago it decided to die while I was driving.  I managed to get it to start but died when I got it home.  I've replaced fuel filter, all fuel hoses { From BMP Designs},  replaced fuel pressure regulator.  I've got a 1 1/2 year old o2 sensor, new 2.25 exhaust, new cat, new k&n cool air intake, new air hoses and boot,  recently adjusted fuel sending unit {1 year ago},  also checked batterie posts those are good.  Areas of concern I noticed spark plug wires a little loose {1 year old plugs, wires were same from when I purchsed it 2 years ago}.  The over head maintinence display read w/ red led under coolant {checked and it's full}.  I managed to get it to run for about 15 minutes usually starts on it's own after sitting for about 1 hour,  I can force it to start w/ starting fluid to the intake but I don't like do that and it only last for a a min or two then glugs to a silent death, after it rotates  sounds strong but won't start.  Also when it shuts down it feels not super hot but semi- maybe and accelarator cable is a little loose forgot about that.  help this is supposed to be my work car!

Answer
James,
Sounds like a lot of stuff is going on with the car..

Perform a tune up on the car first.  The main thing is to NEVER... NEVER... NEVER modify an engine that is running poorly.  The 2.25" exhaust, the K&N intake filter etc could be masking the problem.  I would replace the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, and coil.  If those items have not been replaced in the last few years it's probably time for it.  That will probably fix the problem, or atleast eliminate the ignition as your problem.

Do this first, then all you have left is the fuel supply.

 hope this helps,
 Josh
