BMW Repair: 91 BMW 318is Fuel Problem, bmw 318is, fuel hose

Question
Hi - my son was driving his '91 318is along and it just stalled.  Initially it would restart, run a little, but then stall.  Now it will hardly start at all - sometimes after sitting for a long time.  It has good spark at all 4 cylinders, so I think it's fuel related.  I can't smell gas and it will start and run (very briefly) with ether.

Thanks
Rick

Answer
Rick,

Check the fuel pump, and make sure its running, this could be a relay problem as well.

I think you are right about fuel being the issue.  To test fuel pressure, remove the fuel hose on the injector rail (pressure side hose).  Insert it into a bottle and have someone try to start the car.  If your pump is working, fuel is pour out of the hose, if you have no pressure, then the pump is not working/recieving power.

 Hope this helps,
 Josh
