BMW Repair: 1986 325 Speedometer/Odometer dont work, wahzoo, engine controller

Question
Hi Ronald.

I removed the panel under the steering column and noticed 3 wires have been cut, (1) white, (1) purple and (1) blue.  I tried to trace them back and noticed the same wires in a cluster behind the speedometer.

I bought this car in Sept. '03 and neither of the gauges ever worked.  I suspect foul play.  Go figure.  I just need to know if these wires directly affect the gauges.  Everything else seems to work on the instrument cluster (tach, temp and fuel gauges work fine).

What do I need to do in order to get the other 2 working, besides taking it to a mechanic and being charged up the wahzoo (no offense but folks here 'beamer' and seem to lose their minds)?  :)

Thanks.

Adonya

Answer
You say they go to a cluster behind the speedo or to the speedo?
Does it look factory or perhaps part of an old aftermarket alarm?
The colors dont match anything on the wiring diagram.
The speedo is feed from the engine controller which feeds the OnBoardComputer if equiped.Do t you have an OBC and if so is it working?
