BMW Repair: BMW 325 General Reliability, lower ball joints, pleasent experience

Question
Am thinking of buying my daughter a 1987 325 sedan and would appreciate your general opinion of these cars regarding reliablility etc.

Are there any common failings in these cars I should look for?

Car looks very well cared for judging by the appearance and interior condition etc.

It has  115,000 miles.  I would plan on having new timing belt installed since we don't know when or if it has been done.  Will have it checked by a local BMW mechanic.

Ideas?

Thanks so much

Answer
You have already addressed the big one with the timing belt.Never go more then 50000 between changes as they break and do serious damage.
The front lower ball joints are common failures as are driveshalf problems.
Because the battery is in the trunk it needs to be in top shape to get juice to the front.
I think she will have a pleasent experience.
