GMC Repair: Steering column, signal switch, steering column

Question
My sons 1989 s-10 blaser has a "floppy" steering column, the vehicle seems to turn okay but the steering column appears to be so totally loose.  Can you tell what this is about?

Answer
More than likely the hinge pins have backed out. To fix it you will have to disassemble the column. The steering wheel, lockplate, turn signal switch, ignition switch, and upper coulmn housing all need to come off. Once you have all of that off then you should see the pins located on either side of the column, they are about a big as a dime and half an inch long.

You will need a lockplate depressor which you should be able to get at your local parts store.

I am sorry that it took so long to reply, it has been very busy around here.
