Alfa Romeo Repair: Lowering temperature on Alfa TS engine, aluminum radiator, alfa 146

Question
Hello,

I drive a '98 Alfa 146, 1.6 Twin Spark. I know the 146 is not common in USA, but nevertheless... hope you can help me with this question.

The engine blew a valve due to an oil leak, which was caused by burnt valve seals... this problem has been repaired last week, but Alfas tend to run quite hot (up to 90ºC) and i live in a very warm climate, so overheating was probably the cause.

My intention is to lower the working temperature of the engine by say, 10ºC. Can this be done adjusting the thermostat, forcing the fan to cut in sooner (I am trying to avoid having the fan constantly ON), or by any other method that you may know of?

Thanks very much in advance,

Kind regards

Emilio

Answer
Double check that the injector in that cylinder is delivering
enough fuel.  Changing to a lower temp. thermostat helps.
Switching to an aftermarket aluminum radiator really helps.
Installing a switch to turn on the fan below 30 mph is also
helpfull.  Usually, the fan only helps cooling below 30mph
(48kph)
