American Motors: Neutral safety and B/U switch for saginaw column, turn signal switch, neutral safety switch

I am in the process of installing a small block Chevy and TH 350 in my 84 CJ7 which was originally equipped with the Torque Flite 999 automatic.  After I worked through the shift linkage issues with some heim joints and some threaded rod, I realized I have yet to figure out the neutral safety switch and back up lights.  The TF999 has the internal switch that handles the job while the TH350 would normally have the dual purpose switch on the steering column.  I know there are Lokar kits out there that will do one or the other operation but not both and I really wanted to keep the stock, column shifter and look.  I recalled changing the turn signal switch in the Jeep Column a while back and it was strangely similar to the column in my 80 Chevy.  This made sense when I saw you mention the column is a Saginaw and a division of GM.  So I checked the CJ column where the neutral safety switch would sit if in a GM product with a TH350 and there appears to be a slot for the switch.  My question is:  What application might I use for a GM neutral safety switch and back up switch in a Saginaw column which came in a 84 CJ.  The shift tube is in there and moves with the column shifter.  Is it a matter of getting a few in at the parts store and seeing if they will fit?  Also, are you aware of the wiring on the TF999 neutral safety switch (the three wire plug on the transmission housing)?  My goal is to use these stock wires in the harness and route a new harness to a TH350 switch on the column.  I guess you figured that out by now!  Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I think the easiest thing for you to do is visit your local salvage yard and find a GM vehicle with the parts you can scavenge. I would think a GM from the late 70's through the early 80's should work. Look at the column before pulling it out to see if the necessary parts are there.
