Audio Systems: Kenwood 8401, impedance ohms, power indication

I have a kenwood 8401 640W amp that i gto from a mate, when i hook up the power and then put a 12v signal to the "rem" to turn the amp on, the led power indication light flashes on briefly (half a second max) then goes out. I have limited knowledge on transistors etc so hopefully you can be of some help.

What kind of load do you have on the outputs? Sometimes if you laod the amp with too little of an impedance (ohms) the amp will go into protection.

If it does this even with proper loading, you may want to check the ground. If there is any paint at the point where you have it grounded, you will need to scrape all the paint away for a proper ground.

If this still doesn't cure the problem, the amp is the problem and needs to be serviced.
