Audio Systems: van stereo, chevy express, bose system

Question
I have a 2001 chevy express conversion van that has the bose factory system installed in it. This system only uses a vcr, there is room to run an aux plug in unit for the rear monitor. What i want to know is what do i need to do to convert, or add, a dvd player for the whole system. I have looked at the wiring diagram and it looks all integrated.

Answer
I think you can just add the dvd player and run it through the aux input.

You cannot view a dvd from the driver and passenger seats for legal reasons.  That is why it is rigged for rear monitor(s).

I haven't looked at the system wiring, but from my memory of owning a 2004 express van with Bose, it does have provision for playing a dvd input. If you purchase a portable dvd player you should be able to merely plug it in.

If you want to rip the vcr out and replace it with a dvd player that is a different matter all together, but the dvd player,  once you have figured out the hardware mountings the audio and video would plug into the same feed lines as the vcr.

You might check with Crutchfield.com and installer.com (they both have  800 lines) and ask if they have adapter kits for adding to the Bose system if your aux inputs do not satisfy your needs.

Best wishes,
