Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 1996 Sable oil leak, sable oil, power steering fluid

Question
Our 1996 Sable (70,000 miles) has never had a leak until last week. I noticed a spot on the garage floor about 8" in diameter. It was about a foot from the inside of the driver's side front tire. I put down  a piece of cardboard to try and figure out where the leak originated from, but after three days, there was no more leaking. My wife used the car and again I noticed an oil leak, this time about 6" in diameter ,on the cardboard. So I put down newspaper on the cardboard to check for any more leaking. Two days have passed and no leaks. Could it be possible the leak occurs when the engine is started up? So far I can't pinpoint the leak just from looking from the front or side of the car. The leaking oil doesn't appear to have any color, just sort of engine oil color. I can't really see anything leaking from the top side of the engine.

Answer
Hi Daryl,

You found it was oil and not transmission fluid or engine coolant or power steering fluid or brake fluid. My point was that there are so many things that can leak from dozens of places that this medium makes it hard to diagnose leaking fluids. I suggest you run it down to your local guy and have him peek at it for ya.
