Audio Systems: Kenwood Hom Theatre, authorized service center, kenwood vr

Question
Hi Gary, I really hope you can help me out. I aquired a Kenwood vr-6070 home theatre amplifier from a friend who recently upgraded his system. I've used this reciever for about 2 months and one day it would not produce sound, from any input or any source. Nothing fom the tuner or even the surround speaker test tone. I left it alone, and left it on for a couple hours and still did not get sound. So I connected a cd-player to the front component inputs and it played for about 45 minutes, then I heard an awful electronic sound from my speakers and it quit again.

I purchased a service manual for this unit and I also tried to visually inspect all the boards in the stereo, paying attention specifically to the capacitors but everything looks a-1. I talked to a few guys in town who said 'It sounds like the Input IC' and another said it was 'The Capacitors' but neither would look at the unit stating they didn't have much electronic repair experience.

Any Ideas?

Answer
There is a problem with the output stage of the amp that is preventing it from fully turning on.  The unit is in "protect" mode.  These units are not the easiest to work on.  I would suggest that you get this unit to an authorized service center for Kenwood.  Expect a repair bill in the $100 - $150 range for parts and labor.
