Audio Systems: stereo problem, clarion dxz555mp, radio antenna

Question
Okay, I did all that and it still doesn't work.  The illumination/disc eject is still working, just not the screen.  I tried resetting it, but that didn't work either.

-----Question-----
Hi, I recently bought a Clarion DXZ555MP car head unit and when I hooked it up, the illumination and disc eject worked but the display wouldn't turn on.  It also won't accept cds.  I tried everything I could think of, and when nothing worked, I decided to exchange the unit for a new one.  When I installed the new one, the same thing happened.  Every cable works and is hooked up correctly, but the display/cd receiver still doesn't work.  Is there something I am missing on hookup?  Here's a link for the product installation manual: http://www.clarion.com/us/en/support/installation_manuals_2/index.html?pdf='../.(Install).pdf'

Any help would be great, thanks.

First thing I would try is disconnect EVERY wire on that harness EXCEPT for the:
constant power (usually yellow)
Switched power (usually red)
Ground (usually black)

So there's no speakers connected, no orange wire, no blue wire, no radio antenna, nothing except these 3. MAKE SURE all the other wires cant touch eachother or the frame of the car or the metal outside of the radio. putting orange wirenuts on the ends of each wire as you disconnect is is highly recomended for this. so anyway, these 3 wires you've connected now are the only wires nessesary for the unit to function by itself.  Try the radio like that, it should turn on and accept a cd and look like it's playing,  if not, you got something else messed up.  if it does work, connect the speakers back, 1 set at a time,  do this while the cd is playing and you should hear the speakers playing sound as you hook'm up.  if you get to a set that makes the unit shut off, then that speaker is probably grounded against the car somewhere.  if you get all 4 speakers going and it still plays, continue connecing the other stuff.
try this and let me know.

Answer
ok, at this point this is what I'd do, have a friend help cuz you can maybe damage the unit if you dont do this right.  take the radio out, if you have the wire nuts on all the speaker wires and the blue and orange and whatever, great, that's kindof a must.  open your hood and lay a towel down near the battery and put the stereo on it. have your friend hold the black wire from the cd player tight on the negative of your car battery.  then touch the yellow wire from the cd player to the posative of the battery, hold it there for a sec and WHILE its still there, touch the red to the posative as well and keep them both connected.  this should power the unit up.  while you're holding the 3 wires right on the battery try putting in a cd and such and see if it looks like its working right now.  it probably will work now, this will indicate some sort of wiring problem and we'll have to figure out what it is and fix it.
Let me know how this goes and be carful cuz car batteries are suprisingly powerful and dangerous ok?  use the towel under the cd player too cuz sometimes they're not suppose to be grounded against the car.  and MAKE SURE NO OTHER WIRES touch the battery's terminals or the body of the car!

good luck and let me know what happens
