Audio Systems: head unit & amp not turining on, sony xplod, farad cap

Question
i have 2 12inch sony xplod 1000wats hooked up to a 1000 wats qutaum mono amp. my system was fine but i noticed that my head lights would dim at night. so i added a 5 feright battey cap and now head unit or amp dont turn on what could be wrong?

Answer
Depends on where you added the caps.  If in the wrong place they could be gobbling up the power.

Even if you wired them in the right place, you may be impatient; it may take a very long time to charge them up; or they may be taking so much charging current they are tripping the voltage relay in the car.  In other words, there are a number of things that could be going wrong.

Here is what I would suggest you do:

ONE: Disconnect the 5 farad cap.  See if it works the way it did originally. Then, add the cap again AFTER the amp is up and running.

TWO:  Consider a new, higher cca battery and/or a higher output alternator.

THREE:  If the engine is off and the amp drags the voltage to the lights down, then you need fatter wires  that do not have such high voltage drops.

Summary; IT is really just an ohms law proposition.  If there is a lot of current being drawn by the amps and this causes the lamps to dim, they are not getting the full voltage.  Either the battery internal resistance is too high (especially if they are getting old) or their capacity is not sufficient or there is too much current for the size of the wires which are feeding the amps.....  etc.

So, you must do a little homework to determine what is going on. Then, let me know more and I can give you additional advice once we know where the problem is at.
