Audio Systems: AIWA STEREO-CD NOT RECOGNIZED, aiwa cx, aiwa stereo

Question
I PURCHASED A USED AIWA CX-ZVM27U (OR Z-VM27) ON EBAY.  THE FORMER OWNER STATES WHEN THE DISC IS PICKED UP, IT IS NOT BEING RECOGNIZED. HE THINKS THE "LASER" JUST NEEDS TO BE CLEANED. WHAT WOULD YOU ADVISE? MAHALO FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE!

Answer
Dear Aurel,

I *would* have advised you to have the seller clean the laser and *then* tell you if it still refused to recognize the disc. But that's only one cause.

Others are: a failed transport belt (that connects the motor to the disc platter); dirty CDs; and corrupt programming. If your CDs are clean, that leaves the other two, both of which require professional diagnosis and cure. Depending on the age and relative condition of the unit and what the repair estimate is, you may need to consider trashing it and buying something new and working.

Caveat for ANY eBay purchase: don't buy something broken unless you already know how to fix it.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
