Cadillac Repair: ignittion problem, steering column, special tools

Question
I have a 1988 Cadillac de ville and cannot remove the key from the ignition (meaning I cannot turn the car off or remove the key).  I have tried moving the car in and out of park thinking that that was the problem but nothing has worked.  What can/ should I do?

Without seeing your problem it is either a problem in the steering column with the small gears that have a tendency to break off and or a problem with the electricalk switch under the dash mounted above the steering column.

If it IS in the steering column this requires special tools to open up the column.
