Chrysler Repair: brake lights malfunction: 2005 T&C, brake switch, electrical issues

Question
Hi Roland, I have a 2005 Town & Country with electrical issue. After I start the engine the brake taillights come on and will not go out. Key on engine off no problem, ignition off no problem, only with koer position is it a problem. I even pulled the fuse for brake lights under hood and they still come on although not if you depress pedal with ignition off. I have had electrical issues in the past with this van and you have been a tremendous help. I look forward to your answer thanks. P.S. Could the BCM be a culprit?

Answer
Hi Rob,
This looks complicated. Which # fuse is it that you pulled that is supposed to be for the brake lamps?
It appears that the brake switch is one possibility as the cause because it is strange in that once installed it cannot be adjusted!
It is strange that the malfunction depends upon whether the engine is running.
Then it also appears that the bcm does control the 'brake' lights on the corners of the rear, though the center high mounted lamps are controlled directly by the brake switch and not by the bcm. It appears that the bcm controls the filament that is used for both brake and turn signal function, taking its que from both the turn signal stalk and from the brake switch as to whether to 'blink' them or whether to 'brake' them. There is no troubleshoot table shown in the text.
So also tell me if when the brake is malfunctioning, does the center high also malfunction?
If not, then I suspect we have an issue with the bcm erroneously thinking the brake switch has been activated. How about the turn signal function, is it normal?
This is a new problem for me, so it will be interesting to see how it is resolved.
