Chrysler Repair: program key fob, key shop, body control module

Question
QUESTION: I bought a new key fob to program off my existing one and after 4 attempts or so neither fob works. Is it possible to delete the program on the factory key fob this way and is there any way I can return the setting myself, or do I have to  have a dealer do it.

ANSWER: I don't know about that, but I am surprised that neither FOB works. What is the year/make/model?
But if the remote module is getting power (which I can tell you how to check) and neither FOB works then the only solution is to reprogram both using a diagnostic reader. You might inquire at an Auto key shop to see if they do it for less money than a dealer.

QUESTION: It is a 2001 Sebring Convertible. While I was trying to program it I heard the chimes on the original so I thought maybe I wore out the battery. I replaced batterites in both and still no luck. Thanks for your quick response. Linda

Answer
Hi Linda,
Take a closer look inside each fob, particularly the one that worked, to make sure that the contacts for the battery are shiny and making good contact with the surface of the battery. The remote key system is part of the body control module which needs the followiing fuses to be good:
Under the hood in the power distribution box: 3,8,17,18, 23
Behind the dash after removing the left end cap: 5, 9, 11, 15
So look at those for one of them to be blown out. I don't have any other ideas to correct the total non-response to the originally working key fob
If you can get the original working fob to go, then the new onw should be programmable. If you aren't sure how, let me know.
