Chrysler Repair: 2003 Chevy Venture:clunk from rear when starting from a stop, brake fluid reservoir, chevy vans

Question
For the past 2 years we have experienced an intermittent clunk/jolt from the rear of this van on acceleration from a dead stop. Feels just as though you have been rear-ended.  Sometimes occurs back to back for multiple stops and then will disappear for days.  Dealership can't duplicate and claims to have no idea what may be causing this!  Please help?

Answer
Hi Jaye,
Sorry to say I know nothing about Chevy vans. However, one possibility is that you have a leaking brake wheel cylinder at either wheel at the rear which has wetted the brake pads (or linings as the case may be) such that when you stop the pad sticks to the disc (or the lining to the drum as the case may be) and that is what is releasing suddenly when you start up. So check your brake fluid reservoir and see if it is low on brake fluid, and look at the inner sidewall of the tires where you like see streaks of brake fluid, or even check the pavement where you part for wet spots in that area.
Other than that, it would have to be related to the rear axle IF this is a rear wheel drive van. If not, then the only way I can see such an impediment is if were with a wheel brake issue.
