Chrysler Repair: trans 2000 gr voyager 3.3 with 4spd, chrysler service manuals, obd ii code reader

where can i find a good transmission book to rebuild a trans myself . i was driving my van and i stopped at a rr track for a train , van was running fine until then . i put van in drive and it would not go , i reved it up and it went for about 100 yrds and then went out of gear . reverse the same way. if i let it cool down the it would go 100 yrds and do the same thing . what could my prob be ?

Hi Dave,
The best way to get a handle on the problem is to do a fault code readout via the plug that is under the dash next to the steering column by means of an OBD-II code reader. It certainly appears that the hydraulic function is impaired but why is to be determined.
An Autozone parts store will do the readout for free, often, or an independent shop will do it for around $40. Get any 4 digit fault codes, ask what they mean, and what they might recommend. Then write back and we'll compare that to the manual. I am only familiar with The Chrysler service manuals which cover this trannsmission in about 75 pages with what appears to be step by step rebuilding, but I suspect there is alot more detail. Then again it could be something doesn't require a  completer tear dowm.
I assume you have checked the fluid level. If not, and you need to add fluid to get it to the mark on dipstick, then use ATF +4 type fluid.
