ANSWER: Hi Graham,
Do you have a functioning remote keyless entry fob? If not, then accessing the RKE module will be of no use for programming new key fobs for your mini-van. It will require going to a dealer with a Diagnostic Readout Box III or equivalent to program at least one fob. Once there is a fob that works, you can then program a second fob, also without accessing the module. Earlier systems did involve accessing the module, but not in the '98 mini-van. Let me know if you have a functional fob and I will type-in the instructions.

QUESTION: Hi Roland, thanks for responding so quickly, I do not believe I have a functioning FOB, the strange things is both were working fine until last Saturday eve, initially I thought the batteries may be low, so I replaced them but still no luck. I then checked my second FOB and that did not work either, I was wondering if the connector had worked loose on the RKE thus the reason for me asking the location etc, and read were you advise how to ground the RKE to put in program mode to allow FOB's to be programmed in place of the diagnostic tool the dealer uses

Answer
Hi Graham,
You can check the module by removing the trim panels on the pillar posts on either side of the windshield, then left the rear corner edges of the top panel of the dash to release clips. Then pull the panel rearward to release it from clips at the front panel/windshield base. The RKE will them the accessible just to the right of the instrument cluster. It should show 12V on pin 3 and to be grounded on pin 4. The wires on pins 5 and 6 go to pins 37 and 1 at the body control module under the dash on the back side of the fues box. I don't know why the fobs became non-funtional unless the it is unplugged at the module, or the voltage supply is lost. The voltage comes from the same fuse that causes there to be interior lights/power door locks, etc. that need power even when the ignition switch is off.
If you have power and connections to the body module plug then the programming was lost or the RKE/body module function is compromised. You could try reprogramming using a DRB.
