Chrysler Repair: 95 sebring asd relay, crank sensor, fuel pump relay

Question
was talking to you friday so i was getting mil code 42 and now changed the asd relay and changed the crank sensor since i had it anyway still no spark? it was -10C when i put crank sensor in would that affect spacer coming off? Sure need help... THANKS in advance

Answer
Hi John.
The spacer is supposed to be removed off by the surface of the flex plate against which you press it and hold it while you tighten it down. So if you did that it should wear away and leave the correct specing.
If you erased the codes, and still get a 42 code and you replaced the asd, then check that you have continuity between the asd and the ecm on the red/white wire to pin 67. Also verify that the socket for the asd has a jumper that is connected between the right side pin and the front pin of the socket by a black-white wire. I think you said something about a loose wire.

'95 sebring won't start code 42
Question:  QUESTION: the code 42 is from mil. my obd2 wont link with the cars computer and emmisions sticker does not read obd2 compliant it plugs in fine but wont connect. I orderd a new crank sensor already but still unsure. no spark and fuel pump comes on for 1 second when turn key... please help .   THANKS

ANSWER: Hi John,
The MIL 42 according to the manual is to do with the pcm not being able to close the ASD relay, or not being able to energize the fuel pump relay . But as you note, it does indeed close the fuel pump relay for that 1 second period of time as expected, so the 42 code doesn't apply to the fuel pump as being an issue. The ASD relay however doesn't have anything to do with the fuel pump on this vehicle, so it is possible that you have a bad ASD relay or a bad control wire circuit from the PCM to the ASD relay as the explanation for the no spark. You probably don't have a crank sensor problem therefor, but rather an ASD issue, if the 42 MIL code is valid.

history:
1995 sebring quit while driving --no spark and codes 12 & 42. bought obd 1&2 and cant find obd1 data link connector since the obd2 plug under the dash dont work apperently there is one under hood but cant find... think it is crank position sensor because fuel pump can be heard--- please help also have no spark ... THANKS in advance

Answer:  Hi John,
According to my '95 Sebring manual, there is an OBD-II plug under the dash by the steering column. There is no OBD-I plug anywhere in the vehicle.
The 42 code seems to pertain to the ASD relay's output to the PCM not being present/ignition coil primary circuit (depending upon whether you got the 42 code from the MIL light or the OBD-II scan tool. Which was it?). The crank sensor code is 11 via the MIL or 40 via the scan tool. So check it again both ways and let me know and we'll go from there.

QUESTION: where exactly is the asd relay and can bypass it

ANSWER: Hi John,
You will see 4 relays on the drive's side of the firewall, from the in-board to the out-board they are: fuel pump, ASD, transaxle, and back-up lamp. You can pull the relay and jump from the front pin socket to the rear pin which will get you 12V to the spark coil, the injectors, and the oxygen sensor heater. But don't leave it that way of course, for fear of running down the battery and also for safety in the event of a collision.

QUESTION: i pulled the relay and jumped across it but still no spark there is also a black wire coming out of the asd harness and being grounded on firewall not well i might add.. would a groung short here cause other problems THANKS again

Answer:  I don't see a black or a ground wire from that relay socket. Are you sure that you are working with the next to the most inboard relay?
The wires of that relay socket are black/red, red/white, black/white (pin 6 to pin 8), and red/black.
