Chrysler Repair: Jeep 1998 Security system wont disarm, power door locks, computer module

Question
Can't it be reprogramed to work properly?

Okay that it is part of the computer module but isn't there a solution of any sort? fuse relay switch........something?

I have this exact same problem...so if I can't disable it, disarm it or disconnect it, then what are the options to solve this problem? When I had it towed to the dealer all they did was replace the battery, saying that it had enough voltage but not enough amperage to service all the systems in the vehicle...three days later and I am still having the same problem.  Only option is to not lock the doors, since they are electronic, and don't have mechanical push buttons (like the good ole days).....HELP!!!!

Question
Recently my alarm system has not been disarming which then won't allow me to start my vehicle.  After about 4 tries it doesn't even turn over. I play with the door locks and the remote and eventually it starts right up again.  Is there a way to disarm the alarm altogether?  Now I've resorted to not locking my vehicle at all and would like to just get rid of the anti-theft system.
Thanks,
Maria

Answer
Hi Maria,
There is no easy way to disconnect the alarm system because it is part of a complex body computer rather than a separate module. So that option is not available. Other than not using the power door locks or keys or remote, but rather just using the interior push buttons to lock the door there is no easy solution. But if you use the mechanical push buttons (like the good ole days) you can lock the van without setting the alarm at all.
I am sorry for the delay in responding. The question was referred to the "pool" and so I just noticed it recently.

Answer
Hi K.E.,
Unfortunately because it is an anti-theft device it has to be designed to make it hard to beat. I have two ideas:
One would be to remove the door panel and determine the color of the wire from the door lock grounding wire, which may be light green/orange or dark green/orange (if it is like the Chrysler brands) but in any case I would suspect that the wire is "open" at the door hinge area due to the constant flexing. You could try finding the wire in the harness at the hinge area and splicing in a new section on either side. By the way, I assume that you have tried the passenger side door lock as another place to use the key to unlock it and that didn't disarm it, correct?
The other idea is to take advantage of the temporary disable feature that is used when the vehicle is first shipped from the factory:
If you open the hood and then go to the tailgate lock and use the key to unlock it, that disables the system for the next 20 ignition key on-off cycles, but on the 21st such cycle the system will begin to work once more.
So if you just remember to do that trick before the 21st cycle of the ignition swith you should be able to keep the theft system shut off permanently.
The next time it goes off by accident see if doing that will stop the alarming as a test of this approach.
I don't know of anyway to disarm it by reprogramming, at least none of my manuals show it.
My suggestions are based on the '98 Chrysler minivan manual which is the closest thing I have to a '98 Jeep. I suspect they are similar. At least the temporary disablement would be worth a try as it involves so little work. Then just figure out what day of the week you are approaching 20 cycles and do the trick again. Like maybe every Sunday, as a habit, do it as part of checking the oil for example since you already have the hood open. I hope it works for you.
