Chrysler Repair: car stereo: replacement unit has minimal audio power, chrysler cirrus, 2000 chrysler cirrus

Question
I have a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus LXI. I installed an aftermarket panasonic deck in the car but took a huge sound loss with it. It sounds almost as if the speakers are blown. I have bought new speakers and tested them with a direct connection to the aftermarket deck and they work fine but when i try to use them in the door, with the wiring hraness attached, I get no sound form the door speakers and the rear speakers, as stated earlier, sound as if they have been blown. I used a wiring harness so I know that all wires are connected correct and accordingly. Do you have any input or know if there is a speaker amp I must attch the ground to? Thx

Answer
Hi Scott,
I don't have a manual for the '00 Cirrus, but the earlier model did come with an auxiliary amp under the right side passenger seat. It could be that if you had the more deluxe system that your new unit is playing into that amp but it is no longer being powered. So take a look for that and compare the wire colors at the original unit's plugs and see if any of them are unused which could be the power control to that amp. The 'base' system didn't use such an amp.
