Chrysler Repair: 98 Chrysler Sebring: dies, then wont crank, chrysler sebring, question pool

Question
My wives car after running awhile when shut off, its seems to lock out the ignition, turn the key and nothing after some time goes by its starts any ideas ?

Answer
Hi George,
To begin to help I need to know is this a convert or a sedan? And when you say "nothing" do you mean not even the starter will crank over the engine, ot that it just won't catch and run? Your question just showed up on the 'question pool', thus the delay.

Its a convert and yes you turn the key and nothing: lights, radio and all work but it wont crank

Hi George,

There is an important fuse in the power distribution center under the hood (#8, 20 Amp) which powers the starter motor relay, the fuel pump relay, and several circuits of the ignition switch. That fuse may have a crack in its wire which opens as the fuse is conducting current which shuts down the car, then when it cools off it closes and everything will work again. So that is where I would begin: pull the fuse and inspect it or simply replace it.
If that is OK, then when it dies and won't crank, open the hood and listen for whether there is a click from the starter motor relay in the very rear of the box under the hood when a helper tries the starter. If it clicks, then fuse #8 is ok and the starter motor would be suspect, or its supply wire that comes direstly to the motor from the battery. But then you still have the issue of why it died to deal with...So check the fuse and let me know if that is not the cause.
Thanks for the evaluation and nomination.
