Chrysler Repair: interior lights 2000 Chrysler300, door latch, chrysler300

Question
We have a 2000 Chrysler 300.  The interior lights(twin ceiling lights and door lights) stay on or sometimes come on when car is just sitting and not in operation.  Sometimes when you drive the interior lights will come and go off. If you hit a bump in the road they will come on. Last night the battery was dead because I assume during the night the lights had come on. Please give us some advise on this. Thank you for your help

Answer
Hi Cheryl,
Chances are one of the doors is not closing tight enough to prevent the switch in the frame from moving to the "open" position. From inside the car try pushing outward on each closed door to see if you can find which one causes the interior lights to illuminate. That door is the one that needs to have its latch striker plate adjusted to a more firmly closed position. The door latch striker plate, mounted on the door frame, has a couple of screws which when loosened will allow you to move it in-board a few millimaters so the door will, when closed, positively assure that the switch is in the "closed" position. That is the way to stop this problem. If not, let me know. According to the manual the body computer is supposed to turn off an errant light situation like this after an hour, but I suppose it could cycle on and off by itself overnight due to temperature changes.
