Chrysler Repair: 1995 Cirrus tach, cluster board, cam sensor

Question
Sorry, looked through questions till my eyes are sore. Had limp mode problem and just replaced solonoid pack.Don't know if that fixed it.The tranny place read code and said it was that. But tach never worked and my mechanic wants to know what color wires are cause he figures theres a short. Thanks for help

Answer
Hi Joe,
I got a similar question about an hour ago. If your engine is running right then that would eliminate the crank or cam sensor as the problem. So here is my previous answer:

"On the '96 (and as that was the 2nd year of production I would believe also the '95) my manual shows that the speedo/tach/etc. of the cluster all get their position data from the digital data bus, a pair of twisted wires that come from the body computer. The engine rpm sensors are also used by the powertrain computer, so if the engine is running properly those too are OK. So if the data bus seems to be working for the rest of the cluster it pretty much leaves the tachometer itself or an internal crack in the cluster printed circuit to the tachometer as the fault cause. So I would remove the hood of the cluster and remove and inspect it for damage. See if there is any replaceable drive component on the tachometer proper (there was in the late 80's to mid-90's, before the data bus). If none, then you have to consider a new tachometer module.
There are several pages on how to remove the cluster and gauges in the manual. Let me know if you want to try it and I will xerox and postal mail them to you.
I wish I could offer something simple but that is how it looks to me.

(Please rate my answer, thanks)."

The tach doesn't have separate wires, all the data to run it is digitized and carried on the data bus wires. Because the data bus appears to be working I don't see any other answer than that the tach guage itself is the problem or a crack in one of the traces to it on the cluster board.
