Chrysler Repair: 87-89 engine swap: TII to TI, engine diagrams, labaron

Question
QUESTION: I have an '87 LaBaron Conv. that had a 2.2 turbo which expired.  I found an '89 2.5 turbo that I installed and am in the process of hooking up.  Can I use the '87 computer?  How can I get wiring diagrams of the '87 and '89 in case I have to change computers?  Plug ins for the computers are different. Are the wire color codes the same?  Can you offer any suggestions?

ANSWER: Hi Lynn,
I think in the past day or so there was a similar question raised at the Yahoo Autos group called TheChryslerLeBaronClub so check that out. I haven't ever been involved personnaly with such an exchange. There is some difference at least in that the 2.2 was a turbo II while the 2.5 is a turbo I but exactly how those differ specifically I can't be sure without doing some research. Unless your '87 was built in the latter half of the model year it will have two separate parts to its computer, one in the engine compartment, one in the cabin, while the '89 has a sigle module computer with two plugs, in the engine compartment. In that respect the wiring from the computer parts to the engine will have different harnesses. The color coding should be pretty consistent between the two engines, which is good. but the turbo controls are likely to differ.
I have both the '87 and the '89 wiring diagrams and I would be pleased to xerox and copy the engine diagrams for you and postal mail them to you. It would cost me about 10 cents per side and the postage to get them to you. Let me know which set-up your '87 body has onboard so I know whether to copy the early '87 or the '88 to cover the 2.2 set up. And of course give me a postal mailing address. I don't know how to change from a turbo I to a turbo II engine, mechanically, so you will need to seek help for that at the Club and see if that is even possible if you go that route.
I would be inclined to use the 2.5 TI as you have it and modify the wiring and substitue the computers, particularly if you can scavenge the wiring harness out of the donor car.
Sorry to say I haven't been into the turbo details, but I do have the wiring diagrams as I said above.

QUESTION: Thank you for your prompt response.  I do have the wiring harness from the 89 and have made several plug conversions. The computer on the 87 has two plugs and look similar to the 89 except the plugs are much different so I suspect it is the later model. I also need the vacuum hose detail if you have it on the 89.  Please mail the diagrams to me - Lynn Kannapinn, 4185 Chadds Walk, Marietta, GA 30062.  Include a bill for copy charges and postage and I will send you a check.  Otherwise, let me know your exact cost and I will send you a check before you send the diagrams.  Thank you for your help.  I can be reached at 404-626-4982.
ANSWER: Hi Lynn,
OK, that means the '87 does have a single module controller. There was not a separate manual for that set-up which began in 871/2, so I will send you the pages from the '88 manual which should be how you find your car to be wired up. They apply to both the TI and TII motors so that should be a real convenience. Then for the 89 I will send you the pages for the same engines TI and TII which appear also to be identical. Finally, I'll send the pages for the vacuum lines for the TI and TII '89 and '87 respectively. That is a total of 17 sides and the postage should be 58 cents for a total of $2.28  I'll put them in the mail to you before receiving reimbursement. Just mail me a check to the address shown on the return of the  envelope.

QUESTION: Money sent 7/17/07.  The control module on the '87 has two plugs with 10 wires each.  The '89 has controller like drawing sent to me.  On the kick panel inside the '87 there is a box with a bunch of wires.  It is dated 6/18/87.  Perhaps I need diagram for earlier "87.  Also, do you have drawings for charging system.  Old motor had  5 wires to alternator and new has four.  thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Lynn,
That clarifies the model is early '87 so indeed there is the logic module at the kick panel and a power module in the engine compartment. I will copy the pages and the charging system picture too and mail it to you. I don't see 5 wires, though, just black, dark green, dark blue, and black trace. What color is the 5th wire?
Thanks for sending the check. The new pages will be 8 in number so don't worry about reimbursing me for those.
