Steering Column Repair: steering column, locks and turn signal/wiper switch, steering column locks, phillips screw

Question
QUESTION: I read your reply about the loose column- I have the same problem except the tilt is locked in place, won't adjust, just wiggles.
My turn signal/wiper switch: every since right after the warranty ended (of course), my wipers come on spontaneously and will run for a few minutes and then stop on their own, as tho I pushed the washer, but w/o the water. Turning the switch will stop them. I've lived w/ it for years, not a big deal, but I'm fixing up the old beast (220,000+ mi). Is it just a new switch needed?
Also, can the door locks be rebuilt as opposed to replaced? Both are nearly impossible to unlock and take several tries wiggling the key while pulling the door handle. Also, the door open indicator buzzes for minutes after door is closed. Thanks for help

Hi Steve:
Thanks
It sounds like you are right.  I think it's just a multiswitch that needs replacement.  It's a very simple job, 3 screws remove the cover and 2 screws hold the switch in place.
As far as the tilt problem goes, I only have a suggestion for you.  Something may be stuck in the release mechanism.  Check when you have the covers off, if the release rod has enough room to actually move the tilt levers out of position.  I have seen things jam  in there (like the pivot pin itself)
The door locks can be rebuilt and I believe they come off easily.  I think you have a flat metal bracket on the inside door edge that is held in place by a phillips screw.  Remove the screw, slide the bracket out and the lock should release.  It's been a while since I worked on doors, but I think your model is like that.  Once in hand, you may be able to free the lock with penetrating oil, or worst case, take it to a locksmith and have them rebuild it

Key buzzer..no clue

Good luck
