Chrysler Repair: Shift Linkage, dodge dynasty, shift linkage

Question
Dear Mr Finston, I have a 1991 Dodge Dynasty that
I believe I have broken the shift linkage or shift cable in the steering column.I was wondering if you could tell me how to go about fixing this problem. Do I have to take the steering colomn out to fix it. I was also wandering if you knew where I can get a parts break down list with a detailed drawing of the column.

Thank you very much.

Answer
Hi Bill,
Unfortunately I only have the manual for '89 year model steering columns (the shop manual volume that covers 'engine, chassis and body' sold by Chrysler). I had bought the '91 manual a couple of months ago on eBay but the post office appears to have lost the shipment!
Rather than work with the '89 info, I would suggest checking with a local library to see if they stock any repair manuals. The Haynes manual for the AC body line that includes the Dynasty might show up. Or you could see if another '91 Chrysler shop manual 3 volume set shows up on eBay.
You might want to spend some time examing the shift cable connections to the steering column and if the issue were with the cable then the column might not be a relevant concern. I assume that you have the A-604 electronic transaxle with D and OD positions, correct?
If you can't get anywhere with these approaches, I would xerox the pages from my '89 manual and postal mail them to you.
