Classic/Antique Car Repair: Oil Plug, john demoss, teflon tape

Question
Good evening,

My vehicle is a '64 F100 pickup, 292.   Down at my oil plug I have a very small annoying drip.  Here's the question:  what can I use as a sealant when I put my loil plug in?  Can I use a few wraps of teflon tape or what else ??  Thank you for your help.

Answer
Teflon tape is OK to use there, and it is certainly the cheapest and easiest thing to use. You also can ask at the auto parts store for a plastic (teflon or nylon) washer for that plug.  That is what is used on later cars, and if you can find one that is the right fit for your plug, it will probably work as well as or better than the tape, and will last forever.  The tape will have to be changed every time you change your oil, not that that is a big expense!
