ANSWER: You need to do some 007 James Bond work for me. Check the following and let me know:
1. Is the clicking there all the time?
2. Does it go faster and the speed of the engine increases?
3. Is it louder on acceleration or deceleration?
4. Is it louder when under load like climbing a hill?
5. Is it there when the engine is cold like first starting?
6. What kind of fumes, exhaust, raw gas, or oil?
7. What engine?

QUESTION: hey brad, its a 350 motor  at start up its sounds fine untill abot 15 20 mins then the clicking starts the clicking increases and gets louder when excelerating but quites at idel the smell I believe is exhaust thanks again

Answer
Gad Zooks, it sounds just like a blown exhaust manifold gasket at one cylinder or just a loose manifold. I had a motor home with a 454 it it kept breaking exhaust manifolds on the right bank. Try tightening the manifold with a torque wrench to 20 foot pounds and see if there is a difference. To visually see if this is a problem carefully pour some kerosine or Marvel Mystery oil down the carb intake with the engine idling to make smoke. Then snap the throttle, if it is an exhaust manifold problem you will see it. Keep me posted.
