Dodge Repair: 2000 Intrepid 2.7L A/C Malufuntioning, negative battery cable, fan speed control

Question
I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L that has an a/c problem that I've never seen before. I have looked over your current questions and I don't see one like this. My a/c is only blowing out of the defrost vents. The air is cold or hot depending on how I turn the VENT controls. The actual temperature setting does absolutely nothing. I have tried to run the in-dash trouble code finder, but the two buttons that control rear defrost and a/c mode don't even illuminate, and do nothing, so that test is impossible. I have checked the blower motor fuse-fine. I have checked the a/c compressor relay-fine. The fans come on as normal, the fan speed control works fine, but no air out of the front vents, and no direct way to control temperature. I thought it may be the control box, so I replaced it...no change except for now, the vents don't do anything. I have heard that leaks in the vacuum line will cause loss of pressure so the vent will default to defrost, but would that also cause the temp control and the buttons to not function? Please help me with this. I do so greatly appreciate you taking the time to help. Hopefully, I'll be able to fix and advise others like you do, as I'm a 19 year old aspiring mechanic.

Answer
u have a mode door or actuator issue  it is all electric  not vac control

MODE DOOR ACTUATOR
The mode door actuator is an electric motor. It mechanically positions the A/C unit panel/bi-level door and the floor/defrost door. This actuator contains a feedback strip which allows the computer control to know the exact position of the mode door at all times. The mode door actuator is not serviceable and must be replaced if found to be defective.

The mode door actuator is located on the lower left side of the HVAC unit housing Mode Door Actuator Location

REMOVAL
Open hood and disconnect the negative battery cable remote terminal from the remote battery post Negative Battery Cable Remote Terminal
Remove left and right underpanel ducts.
Remove floor console.
Remove center floor heat adaptor duct.
Remove rear seat heat forward adaptor duct.
Loosen center support bracket and pry rearward to gain access to the actuator.
Remove actuator retaining screws. Then pull actuator straight down. Upon removal, note the shaft position of the actuator, because the shaft on this motor is keyed. When installing new actuator, its shaft must be positioned in the same location.
Remove electrical connection on actuator.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
