Dodge Repair: Replacement of oil pan on 1998 6 cyl Dodge Pick-up, support brackets, silicone rubber

Question
My oil pressure dropped and I pulled over right away.  Then pressure returned and I proceeded down the road.  Before I could get off the interstate I lost pressure again.  I was very near the exit so I kept going.  A tapping sound developed and as i arrived at the gas station it was quite loud.  I had the truck towed to my home where I will attempt to remove the pump myself.  It appears that I do not have to jack up the engine to do this.  Am I correct?
Also...does it sound like an oil pump to you!?
Thanks for your help!
