Eagle Repair: 1994 eagle talon 1.8 L automatic, transmission control module, eagle talon

Question
I stopped at a stop sign and tried to cross the road and the car would not move. There is no reverse or drive, nothing.[The car was driving fine till then]. I was told that there should still be reverse gear no matter what, safety reason.Fluid is still pumping and again i've been told there is no reason this transmission should not work.Is there a fuse? Another mechanic told me to flush the transmission.I was told to rebuild it[$1900.00]I can buy another car with that. What's wrong with it and what can I do to fix it? It has to be something simple!!!!!!

Answer
Sorry, but there's not something simple.

BUT don't flush it, that's a waste of time and money.  Flushing a transmission is preventative maintenance and very seldomly actually fixes anything.  The few times it does "fix" something most of those just end up being band-aid fixes that just prolong the inevitable.

The vehicle does have a transmission control module.  I beleive it's mounted under the passenger's feet but don't quote me on that.  I've seen a turbo talon auto have one go out leaving it in limp mode.  Swapping out TCM's fixed the problem.

This isn't a sure thing for you and I would not expect to pay any less that $150 for a good one.  Additionally, if it's not the TCM then a rebuild is probably on the horizon.
