Eagle Repair: talon transmission installation, cv joints, torque converter

Question
i have a 93 eagle talon (automatic) i dropped the tranny to change the rear main seal and i also changed the front pump seal now when i was installing it back in every bolt was flush -mounts and the two top bolts and the starter but the dowel pins arnt flush why would that be? well i called my local auto store and asked and they said it should be alright so i tried to start it and its starts but there was this huge grinding noise coming from the bell housing im thinking the tourque converter isnt set properly but thats it other than that im lost ........and are there any tips on lining this up properly ......im going to go back out and pull the tranny about 6 inchs away from the block and re set the converter now when i do that should the whole tranny slide on flush to the block including the dowel pins.......everything else is fine as in the cv joints and whatnot ....... thanks erik

Answer
Sounds like you did NOT get the torque converter all the way into the trans pump.

Hopefully you did not damage the pump or the converter as it is HIGHLY possible.

NOTE: When installing a torque converter it is FULLY inserted into the pump when you CANNOT get your hand into the space between the bell housing and the torque converter.
