Eagle Repair: Transmission shifts only after restarting engine?, eagle vision tsi, pressure sensors

Question
Eagle Vision, TSI, 1993, Auto transmission problem.

Will not shift gears unless one starts the car and then either
1. Start the car and while running down the road, put it in neutral and turns off the ignition and restart the car.
2. Start the car in park and then turn it off and restart it.

Obviously electronic, but what is causing this annoyance, with potential for complete failure?

Answer
Most common fault is, If applicable to your type of transmission is a failure of one of the solenoids and or pressure sensors inside the transmission.

Since it still has the ability to shift, I don't see any major expense here. What you will need is to have someone with transmission expertise perform some teast and replace the faulty component(s( simply by removing the transmission pan ONLY. In most cases the transmission does NOT have to be removed, So be careful if someone tells you the transmission has to come out. Get several opinions.
