Ford Repair: service engine light problem, noid light, coil pack

Question
I have a 2002 E150 Van 4.2L with 162000mi. The service engine light comes on and the codes are PO316 and code PO302 missfire cylinder #2. The mechanics have'nt been able to find the problem. I do live on the northern ca coast where the weather is a little wet year round. Where do I start/ I'm trying to sell it but not in the current condition.

Answer
A couple of questions, and hopefully, we will have you fixed up. What have the mechanics done thus far? Did they replace the coil pack and spark plug on cylinder number 2, is the first question? If so, what was the result? The P0316 is a random cylinder misfire, usually indicating that a tune up is required. The moisture could also play a key roll. These late model coil packs are not moisture friendly. If the mechanic has replace the plug, and coil pack, did they test the compression on the number 2 cylinder? Also, did they test the fuel injector with a noid light? Have they replaced the fuel filter? These are all questions that I will need to know. The only other thing that would cause this, could be fixed by taking the van to the dealership to have the PCM reprogrammed.
