Ford Repair: 1978 f150 c6 trans, tail shaft, home mechanic

Hi I have A 1978 F150 2wd 1/2 ton with a 460 and a C6 trans. the output shaft on the trans is sloppy side to side & up and down quite a bit.
with the drive shaft in it moves way too much..
any ideas on how to fix?

Hello and thanks for the question... I'll try to help.
 I would suggest that the tail shaft housing bushing needs to be replaced. This is something done by transmission shops, and really shouldn't be tried by the home mechanic.
I would suggest that you bring it in to a shop and have the repairs done.
