Ford Repair: transmission bronco II-88 no gears, vacuum modulator, long time friend

Question
Ok. So due to my hot red-headed temper. I pulled out of a driveway rather quickly and before letting my bronco finish going one direction i quickly put it into drive and pushed the gas pedal. Then(go figure) I hear a rough bumping noise and my truck won't go anywhere. I was told to do a couple of different things but only took the advice of my long time friend/long distance mechanic. He advised me to put one bottle of brake fluid into the transmission and to jack the rear wheels off the ground and then to just start the truck and work that brake fluid and transmission fluid through the gears for awhile. Then check and see if it's trying to pull at all. Well, it's not trying to pull. The bands were needing adjustment badly and that has been done. But it isn't budging. Also, the transfer case is four wheel drive yet my truck is only two wheel drive and has never been four wheel drive. Can you tell me why that is and what else to do to my truck to try to fix it before i give up on it? I don't have the money to get a new transmission and i need to get a job desperately to support my two kids by myself. PLEASE HELP ME! any information or knowledge you can throw my way would be greatly appreciated. Also, it is a four cylinder, 2.9l engine, fuel injection, and you'll have to ask me for any other information you may need.  Thanks for your time. Susan

Answer
Susan,

First let me apologize for the length of time it has taken me to respond but I had computer failure.

Now, you need to start by checking your transmission fluid. It sounds like you could have burned up the bands in your transmission or your forward clutches. Also, your bands could be out of adjustment. Do you know someone that knows how to adjust them? If you do, I could send instructions to the person so that he could do this for you. It is also possible that you have a vacuum leak on the vacuum modulator, which is located on the transmission. The vacuum modulator is usually located on the passenger side of the transmission (but not always). It has 2 black hoses coming off it that go up to the intake manifold (the black hoses are vacuum lines). I hope that this helps and if you need further assistance or have more questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
