Honda Repair: Prelude Acceleration, chevron techron, noticeable loss

Question
To start I have a 98 Prelude with 85,000 Km.  Last week for some stupid reason I let the gas tank run almost completely empty before filling it.  This week I find the acceleration in the VTEC range sputtering and a noticeable loss of horsepower.  Could this be a result of my stupidity?  Are fuel cleaning additives safe to use?  If so any recomendations?

Answer
Hey Patrick.
If you ran the car out of gas completely, you may have damaged the fuel pump. If it just got really low, you most likely picked up some sediment from the bottom of the tank. You can try some gas treatment, or injector cleaner.
Get a fresh tank of good gas (Chevron, Shell, Union76, etc.) and then add the product. Then run the entire tank through until you need gas again. It will hopefully clear up after a few trips. I normally don't recommend additive products, but there are alot out there. Examples are Chevron Techron, Gumout, STP, Prolong, and many others.

Good luck.
