Hyundai Repair: 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe, hyundai santa fe, climate control system

Question
I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe V6 173HP 4wd. We've been noticing a musty smell inside the cab ( not from us ) and a hot radiator/ coolant smell from the front of the car. I don't see any leaks anywhere except for a drop of anti-freeze sitting on top the engine. The guages seem normal, I was only able to add 1 cup of anti freeze to the reservoir. When the engine is running and hot I see nothing.I'm really stumped by the interior / exterior smell.
Please advise. Thanks, Gary

Answer
Most musty odors occur because of issues inside the vehicle or in the climate control system.

Have a good look at the carpets (and underneath if possible).  Look for any areas that are wet/damp.  You may have water leaking into the vehicle causing the problem.

If coming from the climate control system, you may be able to cure the odor problem by adding air freshener.  Simply select fresh air, turn the heat on high, and spray aerosol air freshener into the air intake at the base of the passenger side of the windshield.

If this doesn't address the issue, you may need to see if a repair shop can resolve the issue for you.  Over the past couple years, vehicle deodorizing services have become more prominent.  Ask at the place where you regularly have your vehicle serviced whether they can do this for you.
