what is the best way to check if my car is timed correctly and adjust if necessary

Hi Sydney,
Put a timing light on # 1 or # 6 plug wire and look at the timing marks on the front pulley from the drivers side. If it needs to be changed loosen the pinch nut at the base of the distributor and rotate the distributor to get it set correctly.
