Jaguar Repair: No Spark/start 86 XJ6 VP, air gap, auto parts store

Question
Hey Howard,
Ive been working on this problem now for ever and I just cant get it resolved. My Father had this Jag parked for 5 years and it ran fine. But i dug it out of the grave yard and i cant get her to go. I replace the coil, wires, spark plug. now getting into the $$$ parts. So i dont want to just swap anymore ya know! So now i think it eather the ignition amp, or pick up. or the relay??
Or even bigger nightmare mouse eat through a wire somewhere. But the sad thing is the car is in sweet condition.. i mean its clean so i dont want to just give up on it.. and word will help me big time! Thanks bro

Answer
Hi Logan,
Check for power at the coil with ignition on. Then check air gap between reluctor and pick-up in dist. .015 in.
disconnect dist pick-up from amp (mounted on the front of the intake manifold) check with an ohm meter that there is a connection between the two leads going to the pick-up. (Wiggle the wires while testing as a brake in the wire outside or inside is common) It is just a coil and if there is a connection (don't remember the resistance but that don't matter at this point, you just need to see a connection)
If all that is OK take the amp apart and take the module out and take it to an auto parts store and ask to match it up (General Motors, about $35.) Don't tell Jaguar I told you.
I will be gone for a week but let me know.
